INTERACTIVE SOUND INSTALLATION WITH 3 SCORES

body scores is a series of intimate listening propositions that reorient attention inward and between bodies. Each score invites performer or participant to listen through skin, cartilage, airways, and viscera. The projection surfaces are composed of cured liquid latex cast from the artist’s body and skin.

i am still, but my body is still moving

listen deeply to your body.

  1. place your fingers in your ears to cover all external noise

  2. apply pressure

  3. stay very still

  4. listen to the deep vibrations in your body, the slow creaking of your finger joints, your skin shifting against itself (describe the sounds you hear)

ii - with a friend

  1. face each other

  2. place your fingers to cover your friend’s ears

  3. listen to their hands, your body and its interactions

iii - variations with friends

  1. sit in a circle

  2. place your fingers to cover your friend’s ears

  3. listen to their hands, your body and its interactions

my body tells me i am the sea, but i can touch my nose

you are performing only for your body.

in a quiet place, listen deeply and use its sounds as a movement score.

you can do this upright, lying down, or in whatever position is most comfortable.

  1. put in ear plugs

  2. close your eyes after you’ve understood the score

  3. breathe slowly and deeply in and out, maintain this breathing

  4. locate and listen to the source of air/sound

  5. swallow

  6. stretch all of your moveable body

  7. locate and listen to the source of the sound

  8. use sound to draw the boundaries of the body

  9. use all sound as a score for movement - both creating sound and listening to it

  10. end the piece by touching your nose

i am close to you, i am inside your body

  1. place your ear on your partner’s abdomen

  2. get into a comfortable position

  3. listen deeply

ii - variations with friends

  1. get into a perpendicular T shape with your head turned and your left ear on your friend’s abdomen

  2. arrange yourselves so you can comfortably hear their abdomen
